Pacific Crest Trail

Life has been crazy this past year and a half, fingers crossed things have started to settle some. Crazy how we can make plans but not results. We finally got the goats out and it's a great example of this. We planned a meandering river trail, and were so excited that we missed our turn and went up a ridge trail that climbs 3000ft. After a couple miles we realized something wasn't right and did not torture our out of shape goats or selves for that matter to continue, it really kicked out butts. We haven't been out much at all this year due to family matters, but boy was it nice to be out. 


Since we took the wrong trail at first, and the right trail, Waptus river was a meandering 10 miles to camp we decided it was best to change our plans and try something else. Already exhuasted at this point we ended up staying in a horse camp for 2 nights, and day hiking to Pete lake. 

To say some things about Huck. He's out of shape but loves being out there, and gives it his all. He did great at 2 years old with 3lbs in each pannier (total of 10lbs on his back.) He actually drank water this time but really prefers our filtered water. 

Now to say some things about Kingsley. He's got a stubborn streak. He doesn't really seem to enjoy himself, he kinda just wants to go home and be a pasture potato. When ever we approach the tiniest hill he really throws a fit about it and lays down. When we go somewhere he's not comfortable going he goes running down the trail screaming. We've decided this was his first real trip and likely his last real trip for these reasons on top of some other concerns. He has some crooked front legs we were hoping would straighten some as he aged but they seem to be getting worst. He's not mineral deficient, its' just him, but he's already going to be big, adding weight and rugged terrain just isn't quite fair. I don't think he'll be complaining much. 

We plan to take Huck out again on a trip with just him and see how it goes.
