That sounds like a great plan! Boning out meat in the field definitely has its challenges, especially when it comes to drying and handling. Using a sled or even experimenting with a travois sounds like a smart and practical solution. It’ll be interesting to see how well it works once the snow hits — keep us posted on the results.

Has anyone actually attempted to build or use a rickshaw-style cart with their goat for hauling? I'd be very curious to see photos or hear about the design challenges.

Hi Guys,
kolkata ff
If you search for images of a “rickshaw,” you’ll find plenty of ideas for building a cart that a goat could pull and carry far more than 50 pounds. I think a rickshaw-style setup could easily handle a quarter of an elk. In snowy conditions, a simple sled with a rope might work just as well. Goats are excellent for packing deer, but elk are more challenging because of their size and the need to balance heavy loads. I’m leaning toward training goats to pull a cart or sled for elk hunting so boning out in the field can be avoided, especially since sanitation can become a concern
