Bio: I grew up on a small ranch between Meeker and Rangely Colorado. I ended up at BYU with an Animal Science degree then a few years around the country for medical training. Missing the ranch and livestock I gathered the means as soon as I could, to dabble in my roots. When living in cities as a country boy I often would escape the masses via kayaking, canoeing, back packing or hunting. When I heard of pack goats I was fascinated with raising animals for use in a couple of my favorite hobbies.

My family consists of four children who like the goats in varying degrees, teenagers not so much, my 11 yo son loves them and my wife tolerates them for my sake. I've been reading and studying about goats and packing for a about two years after learning from 70+ year old patient how she was able to hike for days in the mountains and cover so much ground. I have gleaned much from the previous forum and from personal phone calls. I've concluded that goat people are as strong headed about their opinions as goats themselves!
Your Goats: I bought 4 kids in the spring of 2013, bottle raised them and have really enjoyed training them. Although I'm the pack animal still it's a whole new experience hiking in the mountains with goats. They add a new dimension to the entertainment factor. I have two sable Saanans and two Alpines. I've left the boys intact both on top and below. This has kept me busy on both my Elk and Deer hunts this fall, it was like everything around me was in the rut, I certainly smelled like I was. Despite their nasty habits and excitable natures I continue to take them out for exercise, I admit I'm looking forward for spring and my planned castration party, keeping them away from people is my greatest challenge.
