I'm a dog trainer in upstate South Carolina, specializing in family pet manners. I also raise & occasionally breed working Central Asian Shepherd Dogs & run an education group for people to learn more about selecting, raising, training, & breeding working livestock guardian dogs. I'm an avid backpacker & have always been accompanied by my dogs, so taking the goats along as well is a natural extension. |

My boys are my first foray into goat ownership. Leroy is a Saanen/Nubian wether, born December 2012, & Fred is a Nubian wether, born January 2013. I originally acquired them from my friend with whom I co-breed working dogs. She has a small working dairy farm (mostly spotted Nubians but she had two Saanen bucks she was boarding that she used on a couple of her does) & had a heavy buck year last year. They are my pets & puppy trainers, & as soon as I can get a small trailer they will start hiking with me & the dogs. They're still too small for packs & being VERY dairy in type will never be able to be heavyweight packers, but they are a lot of fun & they're definitely paving the way for me to purchase a pack bred goat in the future. If I had known that goats are basically just the herbivore version of dogs I would have gotten them years ago! They were both bottle raised & are total Mama's boys. Leroy is bigger & more adventurous & Fred is practically a lap goat & follows me everywhere. They're affectionate, friendly, curious, & scary smart. Also naughty. Very, very naughty. |
