New in S.CA, Hi! - CAhiker - 10-06-2026

Hi,

I have 3 goats.  Two, I've raised to go on walks with me.  Very much looking forward to packing with the larger one (the nigerian would just come as a buddy), and maybe adding a Lamancha some day.  My husband and I love to backpack and I want to lessen my backpack weight.  The logistics in Southern and Central California are soooo tough it seems though!  I was thinking maybe Sequoia National Forest because the rangers say its ok there.  My worry is that the camping there is very popular and the bears are possibly used to people or their trash.  We'd love to travel on the PCT, as it runs through our area, but aren't sure we can find an acceptable section.  Hoping to take our first trip and hear others' experiences.  Thanks!

Hello and welcome! I apologize for the long delay in approving your post. I was out of town for a week or so and wasn't checking the forums. It's been so slow these last couple of years I figured there wouldn't be any newcomers while I was gone. Thanks for introducing yourself! I hope your packgoat adventures are awesome, and I hope you share them with us! Best of luck finding good areas to hike in CA. I'm not familiar with that state so I'm not the best resource in that department. The North American Packgoat Association website can be a good resource for finding other members in your area. Are you a NAPgA member?
