Are we talking a NW forest pass?

RE: 2014 NAPgA Rendy - Dave-Trinity-Farms - 03-25-2014

Ok neither one of those suggested web searches where any help and there is no mention anywhere of any required passes. I would guess they make you pay as you enter the park? Here are a couple of links to the park and camp ground.

You might be right Joe on which pass. I have looked all over the Oregon websites and the best I could come up with is a day pass. So would be good to clarify that on the final information flyer/post as well as exactly which camp ground. If already done, I guess I missed it. There are 2 or 3 of them that would house as many of us as should show up there. Smile Maybe we could get lucky and in one of the other ones the Northwest Bikini Hiking Club will be camped! Smile WHAT? Just a though... Smile

Usually you don't need a NW forest pass if you're in a pay to camp site. Forest pass for non established forest use. Parking at a trail head for instance. Kind of like a ski park pass. Or camping in non established camping areas.

Ah, that makes sense.

I've checked a different source and the NW pass was needed for parking at the trailheads within the crater. If anyone decides to stay through a few days of 4th of July week then you could use the pass in the Cascades, Ochocos, the Badlands or the National Grasslands. The grasslands has some great trails behind Smith Rocks that cover areas around and up Gray Butte. Smith Rocks is an international destination for rock climbers. Bend has a great 4th celebration and fireworks off of Pilot Butte. We always have bets as to when the butte will be set on fire. It always is. the fire department has rigs all the way along the route up the butte. Pretty funny. Wow was that off topic!

I'll pass on any forest fires. Been in about three too many. Confused

It now looks like I will be able to make it to the Rendy afterall. I am hoping and planning for it now. There are a number of things I am wanting to get done on my van and they now seem much more doable.

I am really looking forward to the trip and visit.

Dawn I can bring one of my little horse bows if you want to try one ?

I will be bringing my young Kikos, a couple years shy of packing age but they will be enjoying the hikes.

See ya'll in June !

So glad to hear you can make it! Absolutely bring a bow! I'll bring a target and bring my hunting bow too. I'm guessing my friend who's helping me with some of the rendy prep, who is also my hunting partner, will want to try it too.

I have a place to go to get your passes online. You can also get a three day pass to use specifically in the area we are in. Go to www.store.usgs.gov and look for the Newberry National Volcanic Monument and the 3 day pass is $10. You can also get them at the Newberry Welcome Station at the entrance to the crater.
