Picking up our new baby buckling today!
#1
8 hours driving and a thousand $$ later, we are back home with our new little man we picked up from Lauren Acton at the goat conference in Clackamas. Saw Taffy there representing us pack goat peeps! Great job Taffy. She walked with us out to meet our new boy. We were going to head back in for the raffle but we were hungry and eager to get back home. Here are a couple of quick crappy cell phone pics of him. No name yet. Has to start with an R though...

He is only 16 days old and already so big! Smile

What a horse! Smile drank 32 oz of milk and still wanting more! He is already 19 1/2 inches at the shoulder.

Your new buckling is worth every penny you paid for him! He is gorgeous and I was drooling over him! I have been extremely impressed with the goats I've seen of Laure Acton's. The fact that she is a veterinarian is icing on the cake. He's going to make beautiful babies.

Hm. So kinda tell us what makes him the thousand-dollar-buckling. He must be something pretty special. Royalty. (Oh, thats an R name) And does he stand out vs other goats in a way that one can see even at 2 weeks old? I'm terrible at spotting show-goat traits. When I see them at the fair I don't usually guess which one is best of class.

He is a stud! Love his coloring, and sounds like he is going to be a big boy! I think there is potential to throw more kids with Thor's markings. Just missing the black leg marks. As a hunter, I like the name Ruger Smile

Sounds like you got an outstanding future herd sire that will pass great dairy lines and tall structure for the packgoats. Best of both worlds!

LOL Charlie you crack me up! Some of those names Smile

Most of the time you can look at a kid and get an idea of if they will be nice. But yes, with this boy, its glaringly apparent. The only fault I can see on him is his slightly longer then average ears. As for royalty... almost but not quite. Lauren Acton is one of if not the current top breeder in the USA. Her blood lines took the National GC this year at the ADGA National show in Alpine, Lamancha and Saanen if I am not mistaken. She has had quite a few National champions throughout the years and usually takes it in at least one class a year. I dont know the pedigree off hand (not my area of expertise) but he is directly link to them. Taffy got to see the appraisals on his dam and other close relations. All scored EEEE over 90. His dam was 92. With what was it Taffy? 6* milker? Just some serious production and records to back it. What I personally like about Laurens animals is the size and scale of her animals and their confirmation. And as Taffy said, she is a vet AND runs her own grade A dairy. This is the buck I have been telling Curtis about for years.

Ya hoping to see some Thor colors Smile And I thought of Ruger too!

He is a little more royalty then I thought. He has 4 National Champions in his recent pedigree. One being a two time NGC. Smile But even at a thousand $$ thats pretty darn cheap when you consider some spot light sale animals sell well into the 10 to 15 thousand dollar range.

He's a beauty! I hope he works out really well for you and throws some beautiful, smart, and friendly babies!

I personally love the name "Rikki Tikki Tavi". But "Sir Ruts-a-lot" and "Raunchmeister" have a certain ring to them. Smile

Since he's destined to be a buck, you could call him "Randy Man". Tongue
