Homemade "Goat Treats"
#1
Thought I would share my recipe here:
  • 2 cups rolled oats

  • ½ cup wheat germ or whole wheat flour

  • 1 cup of raisins

  • 4 carrots, grated or 2 cups grated carrots

  • 1/2 cup molasses

  • 1 cup applesauce or mashed bananas

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • Optional:  anise or licorice extract, or a handful anise or fennel seeds (goats LOVE the flavor)!

Mix everything together and form small cookies. If things won't stick together well, add a little water a little bit at a time, until the mixture holds together.  Drop by teaspoon onto nonstick or greased baking sheet.  Bake at 325° for 25 minutes or so. Watch carefully, these can burn easily! Cool and store in an airtight container.  If you have a food dehydrator, you can dehydrate these at about 135 degrees until they are dry & "cookie-like."  A dehydrator is superior to an oven for this recipe, because the cookies are less-likely to burn but they will still hold together well.

Those sound like something I'd eat! Especially if the anise is added!

Are these the famous treats we heard about from the Rendezvous?

My goats are going to try them!
