Hi everyone!!
The other day i got to thinking,i wonder if there is a way to wean baby goats using a nose ring like this one http://www.farmersweekly.co.za/img/fwa2011125152316.jpg ,except in goat size.Do they make mini versions of nose rings like that? we use those nose rings for calfs quite frequently, and i was wonderinf if someone has made mini versions of them to fit on goats, but i can not find them anywhere. Huh Thanks!!

It would appear to me that would injure the Doe's udder.
I agree with Teckelhut. I think it would injure the doe's udder.
If you used a normal one, not one that is covered in spikes, I dont think there would be any worry about damage to the udder. The problem I see is the goats intelligence. You just know they would find a way to eat off their mamas regardless of the ring Smile
Yeah,i can see what you mean. Wink Oh well,it was just an idea. I would like to try it on a goat, but there is no way to do that without making one yourself.
Now if you really wanna stop em from nursing, put another goats slobber on the teat Smile

What I don't understand is why don't you just do what I always did. Take the kids away from the doe and put them in another pen way away so that they can't nurse through the fence. Smile
Because,if you got a nose ring to work, you wouldn't have to seperate them,so they would still be with their moms, just they would be unable to drink. Wink Imagine how much quieter it would be if they were still with their moms. Tongue

I still dont know if they even make noserings for goats? Do any of you know? If they dont, that might be a good thing to invent.....
Oh, it wouldn't be quiet if a kid kept hitting its mom with that nasty pointed thing! And the more motherly does would allow them to try to nurse anyway and end up getting a shredded udder. I don't think you'd want to use a nose ring on a goat anyway. They're very soft and sensitive. Looks like a great way to injure their noses and make them horribly head shy.

That's when you spend allot of extra time with them so they bond to you because they are missing mommy.

Honestly. One of the things I have learned about goats over the years is that if they want anything bad enough they will find a way to get it. Case in point the Nigerian Doe I had to give away a couple months ago because she could clear any fence in between her and what she wanted. The last fence she cleared (and why I finally gave up on her) being 6 feet tall. I'm serious.
