Hello All
Not a big deal today with the goat boy's.
But something got done, We have been having a little cooler weather only 80's.
So all 4 got put up on the high line for the day as I had some run around stuff to do. They all survived.
If I am not here they tend to go walkabout and visit the nanny's were they came from.
Note To Self: Don't get wethers/bucklings from the farm accost the road were their dam's  are.
Even after weaning they will try to get back to mom. The family jewels have been banded for about 3 weeks and are dead, but have not come off yet.  I think I have a couple Momiee's boys and they know were they are.
Oh well goats are always interesting
=====================================================
All input welcome !!!
Question to all.
In my situation here in SC and the Trail Expeditions with interactions of "City folk" on the trails I have had.
Many Questions about Goat Packing, or even just going walk about with goat escort.
I have access to 2 places for free and have good trails that I have been using.
=================================
My "Wild" idea is to advertise goat escorted "Short" hikes with Pack goats "Supervised by me"
About a hour actual walking time. LET PEOPLE INTERACT WITH PETE AND SAM.
Carry their lunch and beverage in Sam's pack (My only goat old enough to pack for real)
Pick a good 1/2 way spot stop for lunch, and work back to the trail head.
Do a little nature talk, on the way,information on the area,trail story's etc.
I can be good at PR. :Smile it is a Talent learned from driving carriage tours.
Many other details to cover .
ASKING for opinions if this might be a valuable idea to pursue in my area of the east.
Of course it would be a paid service. In advance.
Meet and greet at the Trail Head, Introductions to the boys. basic trail manners, etc.
Explanation of Pack Goats, Saddle Fitting etc, then pack and hit the trail.
Ya'll out west think in terms of hunting or camping, I have this twisted  idea of short hikes around here under supervision for City Folk to learn that Goats can be good critters to have around and use to hike with.

Hello all
Received a Surprise Gift from the farm we get hay from and also have a free-martin heifer we bought as a calf there.
They are boarding /feeding her out for us, Hereford beef, Good eating when she meats out.
===================
On with the events of the day.
We were picking up a round hay bale from them as is normal for the horses,
Got "Talking about goats they have had them "Old Farm People"
Told them about my Goat Tote
============================
They responded with "We Have one with a broken drain valve" You want it??
Response: Sure.
They have another they use to haul water to tanks in the field for the cows and could not fix the break wear it is.
It was farm trash.
Haul it away it is free!!!!!!!!!
So we have another Goat Tote project Smile I have been wanting another for the white boys to travel with. Smile
So we are going back to segregated transport. Colored Goats get the tote in the truck bed, White boys get the tote on the trailer with the gear.(Back of the bus)
This time around the Colored  Boy get Front Seats and the White boys have to ride in the back of the bus. !!!!  Smile
Happy Trails

I sat inside all day and mostly hung out in the chat room and typed up an obstacle course thread. Why would I do such a thing in the middle of summer with a beautiful day outside?? Because I woke up with a terrible pinched nerve in my neck and can hardly move. So I've been applying IcyHot pads, rubbing in DynaMint udder balm (it contains lots of peppermint oil), and taking Ibuprofen all day. It's a little better but I could do without this kind of thing! I had to cancel a riding lesson and everything. I'm not safe to haul a horse to the arena in this condition because dang it, I can't look left!

Ouch, that hurts. Hope you feel better soon!
Thanks, I felt much better the next day and I'm almost back to normal now. We're heading out to take the boys for a nice drive this morning. Smile

Oh good! I just got home after hiking almost 30 miles the last 5 days. I'm in pain (heel spurs, ouch, every step hurt), and the goats and I are exhausted. I'll post photos when I get a chance, it was an amazing trip!
Glad to hear you're feeling much better, Nanno! Enjoy the drive this morning.
I took pictures of goats so I could list them for sale. I've kind of been putting it off. I love all my babies and I don't want to sell any of them! But I also can't keep them all and so I must try to find caring homes for them.

I also wanted to get some photos of Rocky and Rambo so we can advertise them for stud this fall--if they ever bother to come into rut. Big as they are, they're just as sweet and mellow and un-smelly as can be even though they're coming on five months old. I've been told that Nubians are laid back and slow to mature, but this prolonged babyhood is surprising. Anyway, I brought the goats on the porch to get pictures, and Rambo was absolutely convinced that I was trying to throw him off the stairs! Every time I tried to set him up with his tail toward the stairway, he hunched forward and refused to put his hind feet one step back. Here he is, a good four feet from the stairs and still trying to scoot away from the opening. We finally had to give up on this location. He just knew I wanted to push him right off the edge!

Took the boys for a walk along the canal today.  3 of them were wearing packs with Vincent getting to go packless.

It was a bird lover's trip.  I saw a hawk on a fence.  It was too fat and lazy to give a damn about a human and 4 goats... A human shoving goats out of his way and goats with jingle tags and big packs.  It sat there on the fence as I walked past it within 10 feet.   On the way back it was still there and had a friend on a rooftop.  50 feet down the trail there was the remains of a pigeon hanging in the chainlink.  Now I know why it was too fat to move.

Other birds I saw:  A covey of quail.  Squadrons of yellow bellied swifts.  Some kind of tiny yellow bellied finch.  A murder of crows-- Well.  2 crows, so it was only a manslaughter of crows.  2 gaggles of Canadian geese.  Tons of brown ducks, mostly females I think.  Some yellow headed blackbirds.  Tons of pigeons.  About 10 killdeer.  And those hawks of course.  All within about 200 yards of trail that passed by a freshly tilled field and an overflow pond.

Other than Vincent deciding to stick with a low hanging tree branch full of leaves rather than following me, the goats did extremely well on this trip.  Bacchus was only "pretty damn" bad while getting saddled up, so he's improving.

In other news, looks like I'm going to be moving down near the San Rafael and the LaSal mountains.  Expect a whole lot more goat adventures out of me in the future.  I'll be renting a crappy apartment until I find something suitable for sale, but there's a field across the street I can rent for the critters.  It'll work out.  There's some land that may be coming up for sale that I really want across the street from my friend's place:

I'm going to be getting a panel van soon to haul the horse trailer and goats.  It'll work way better than the Suburban!
